Family Friendly Restaurants in Virginia Beach, VA
Your idea of a kid-friendly restaurant might be different from another parent’s, but no matter what, a good eatery should have delicious food and a relaxed atmosphere. The good news is that you can find many great family-friendly restaurants, many of which offer kid-friendly activities, in the Virginia Beach area. Take a look at some food spots with more than just crayons and coloring pages to keep the kids entertained while you wait for your food.
Pocahontas Pancakes

If you have kids, Pocahontas Pancakes should be your go-to breakfast spot. This casual, family-friendly spot has a menu featuring all your favorite breakfast items, starting with its fluffy pancakes. You can get buttermilk, silver dollar, oreo cookie pancakes, and Nutella pancakes, and that’s just for starters. The menu has many more pancake options. If you like fruit on your pancakes, you can choose from blueberry, banana, apple, cherry, and strawberry.
This place also has much more than pancakes on the menu. You can get Belgian waffles, French toast, eggs, and all your favorite eats, including bacon, sausage, scrapple, and steak. The breakfast sandwiches are delicious. Choose a filling and pair it with a bagel, French toast, ciabatta bread, or an English muffin.
Chix on the Beach
You don’t have to keep the kids cooped inside when you eat at Chix on the Beach. This place serves classic American fare, with burgers, chicken, and seafood on the menu. It sits right on the boardwalk, so there’s plenty of action going on around you, and since you’re outside, you don’t have to worry about the kids being loud.
The kids menu at Chix on the Beach includes mac and cheese, grilled cheese, fish strips, tenderloin steak bites, and chicken tenders. If your child likes seafood, they can get fried shrimp, and the kids menu also has shakes and smoothies, as well as sundaes for dessert.
The adults will love Chix on the Beach too. The regular menu features hush puppies, hummus, cheese fries, and calamari to start. You can also choose from fresh salads, seafood, sandwiches, and coastal tacos.
Shorebreak Pizza & Taphouse
The kids and the adults will love Shorebreak Pizza & Taphouse. The award-winning menu is just the start at this Virginia Beach spot. It also has patio seating, fire pits, big-screen TVs, billiards tables, and arcade games.
Shorebreak has kid-approved nachos on the menu, as well as delicious pizza and jumbo wings. You can get regular wings or boneless, and the sauces range from barbecue to teriyaki, sweet n’ sour, and medium, mild, or spicy buffalo. If you want to share a pizza, you can build your own from the long selection of toppings or try one of the house specialties. These include Hawaiian, BBQ Chicken, Two Cheese White, or the Soprano with homemade meatball slices, gourmet spicy sausage, pepperoni, and ham.
Rudee’s Restaurant and Cabana Bar
Head to Rudee’s Restaurant and Cabana Bar, which sits within walking distance of the beach and serves fresh seafood. The outdoor dining area features unique gliding tables, and since it’s in the Rudee Inlet, there are many boats in the marina to watch as they go by. The seasonal fire pits add to your dining experience.
The kids menu doubles as a coloring-in page and features fried shrimp, chicken strips, a mini burger, macaroni and cheese, or a hot dog. All the kids meals come with a choice of applesauce, chips, a fruit cup, french fries, or vegetables. The kids can even get a souvenir Frisbee.
Older kids and adults have a great menu to order from. The starters include hush puppies, oysters, crab bites, smoked fish dip, and blackened tuna nachos. Then for your main, choose from soup, salads, burgers and sandwiches. The raw bar features steamed shrimp, snow crab, oyster shooter, and littleneck clams. If this isn’t enough, you can get steak, pasta, and combination platters for when you want a little taste of everything.
Waterman’s Surfside Grille
Waterman’s Surfside Grille sits on the water with a beachy atmosphere that the kids and adults will enjoy. The menu features classic American fare, such as burgers, sandwiches, and pizza, and there are many kid-friendly items on the menu. They can feast on fish tacos with chips and salsa, pasta with marinara sauce, or three-cheese mac and cheese. Fried shrimp, fried fish strips, crab cakes, and sirloin steak also feature on the kids menu.
The regular dinner menu has appetizers that will please anyone. Choose from crab dip, mussels, she-crab soup, spicy buffalo tuna bites, and bacon-wrapped scallops. If you want something light, there are several salads to pick from, but you can also get a burger, crab cake sandwich, smothered chicken sandwich, or surfside fish tacos. Seafood lovers will enjoy the selection, which features fried shrimp, yellowfin tuna, lobster tail dinner, and classic Virginia crab imperial.
Planet Pizza
Bring the family to Planet Pizza for more than just pizza. While you can get a great slice or a whole pizza, this restaurant also has traditional Italian food, hot and cold subs, and salads.
The kids menu features mac and cheese, ham and cheese, chicken tenders, and corn dog nuggets. This place stands out with its specialty pizzas, offering some unique topping combinations. The Mediterranean pizza comes with cheese, spinach, tomato, red onion, and oregano.
