2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 Charge Times & Range

There’s little doubt that the era of the electric vehicle (EV) is here. With almost all car manufacturers competing for a slice of the EV market, releasing a truly innovative and successful model is an increasingly difficult challenge. Hyundai accepted that challenge and set the ambitious goal of building an EV that’s innovative, great-looking, and fun to drive.

Having first succeeded with the IONIQ 5 SUV, the next step was to build a smaller and more agile vehicle that meets the high standards set by its predecessor. The result was the Hyundai IONIQ 6, an all-electric midsize sedan that ticks all the right boxes and comes at an affordable price.

Fast Charging Technology

Many people who are yet to make the transition from fossil fuel-powered vehicles to fully electric ones are worried about the long charging times. This can be a legitimate concern for many EVs but not for the 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6. You can go from 10% to 80% in only 18 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. This can be helpful on road trips, as you can charge your IONIQ 6 in the time it takes to get a cup of coffee and freshen up. Every five minutes of charging provides an amazing 92 miles of range.

Even if you don’t have access to a fast-charging station, it will still take less than an hour for you to get back to your trip. Using a 50 kW DC charging station, it takes about 58 minutes to go from 10% to 80% battery.

Home Charging

The most convenient way to charge your EV is usually at home overnight. The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 comes with an 11 kW on-board charger. If you’re planning on charging it at home, an 11 kW wallbox is the ideal choice. When using such a setup, it takes five hours and 25 minutes to charge your IONIQ 6 if it’s equipped with a 53 kWh battery and seven hours and 10 minutes with a larger 77.4 kWh battery. Either way, you can plug it in at night and rest assured that it will be fully charged in the morning.

Consider these tips when setting up your own home charging station:

  • Have a professional install it: Unless you’re an electrician yourself, it’s usually best that you leave the installation to someone who does it for a living. This way, you can be sure that you and your family are safe.
  • Find the ideal location: Since you’re going to be using it often, it’s essential that your charging station is in an accessible location for both you and your vehicle.
  • Inspect it regularly: Checking your home charging station from time to time can ensure that it runs safely and effectively. Inspect the cable and plug and call your electrician if you see any sign of damage.

Impressive Range

The 2025 Hyundai IONIQ 6 isn’t just quick and easy to charge but also has an above-average range. The single-motor rear-wheel-drive version has an EPA-estimated range of 361 miles, while even the all-wheel-drive (AWD) version has 316 miles of range. The main reasons for this impressive range are the IONIQ 6’s efficient electricity use and low drag coefficient. Even the powerful 320-horsepower AWD dual-motor version has a respectable range of 270 miles.

The IONIQ 6’s range outcompetes many other vehicles in its class, including the Tesla Model 3, one of its closest competitors. The Model 3 Long Range can go for 333 miles on a full battery, as opposed to the IONIQ 6’s 361-mile top range.

Charging Network Accessibility

While you’re probably charging your IONIQ 6 at home most times, it’s important to know that you can rely on an effective charging infrastructure to help you on your trips. Hyundai has partnered with six other major carmakers to help develop a modern network of over 30,000 high-powered charging stations across North America.

These new stations will be placed at convenient locations across the continent, with many also including useful amenities such as restrooms, restaurants, and shops. They’ll also use smart technologies to help users plan their routes and make reservations. The first stations will likely open in the summer of 2024 across the U.S.
